Hot, hot, hot!

Unbelievably, today was in the mid-80s (F) or 25 (C), and we're still in April. I guess Mother Nature was giving us a present to reward us for putting up with all the cold, rainy weather of the last few weeks. And it was a glorious gift indeed.

Here at Possum Central we opened all the windows to let the wonderful, warm air blow away the cobwebs of winter. When I walked the Horde in the afternoon, for a change it made sense for Shmoo to take a dip in the Hers. Maggie may have been tempted to join him if she knew how to swim.

Later, I went to run an errand in Laroque, and reveled in the beauty of the countryside. Everywhere I looked the trees and flowers were taking advantage of the warmth to put on their spring colors.

I know from past experience that until the Saintes de Glace in mid-May, we can still expect some cold, unpleasant weather. But I refuse to think about that today. I want to enjoy what we have for as long as it lasts.

Ciao for now.

Stormy Weather

And it has been that! In fact, a freakish storm hit overnight (Sunday to Monday) that left a ton of damage in its wake; although not in Chalabre luckily.

The worst of it hit the Razés; with almost a continuous hour of hail that destroyed crops and caused flooding on rooftops and in the gutters, as the ice crystals blocked up storm drains, etc.

We would have missed the event entirely if Maggie hadn't woken us up. As usual, the thunder terrified her and, I suppose in this case, she knew what she was about! Shmoo would have slept through the whole business as well if I hadn't put on the lights to give the terrorized one a Xanax.

Then, just as we were getting up in the morning, the thunder started again, so out came another Xanax!

The rivers are now quite high, and when I drove past l'Aiguillon this morning the Hers was almost to the top of the banks in a few places. In fact yesterday, Shmoo ran down for a swim before I could stop him and scared himself when he realized how fast the water was running. He had to struggle to get back to the bank and I was terrified for him. He was far more prudent today, choosing a place that was shallow enough so that he could remain standing while he got a drink.

After another massive downpour this morning (again, just as I had to walk the dogs), the sun is finally out this afternoon and I would guess it must be around 20 degrees (C), which makes for a pleasant change. I'm not sure if it will stay this way or not, but a bit of sun is sure a welcome sight.

Ciao for now.
