Quiet times

For some reason, things here in the Possum Kingdom have been exceedingly quiet. It's probably the season: winter refuses to leave, spring refuses to come, everyone is sick or hiding out.

Still, we've made our small efforts to liven things up around here. Friends Bernard and Bernadette (the local newsagents) finally came over the lunch we had to keep postponing for various health/family reasons. Once again it proved that a simple meal shared amongst friends is as good as the finest feast: vegetable soup, pasta and meatballs, corn bread, cheese and an apricot tart (the only part of the meal not made at home), left everyone feeling full and satisfied and desperately need of a post-lunch walk to the gardens with the Horde of Chthulu in tow.

In fact, yesterday was one of those almost spring days that give you a taste for what's soon to come. Daffodils are starting to break through and there's a hint of green coming back to the trees. Of course, today is cold and raining, so that hint was probably all we're going to get for another few weeks.

Between being sick and less than appealing weather, some of the dog walking has been cut short of late. I definitely notice that his Shmooness needs the extra activity and suffers (or rather WE suffer) when he doesn't have it. Maggie does her best to play, but that age thing means she really can't maintain the pace that he desires. This weekend in particular Shmoo was clearly bored, bored, bored. I still haven't done anything about finding an obedience class for him, but probably shouldn't put that off too much longer. It's not really about the learning as much as it is about his having a bit more of an outlet and, in particular, a bit more socialization. He's in that awkward teenage stage, which is no more fun with a dog than a human!

Still, he has been slightly less destructive and I've found a way to boobytrap the trash can so he doesn't pick through looking for snacks.

If the rain stops, we'll have to go out for another walk.

Ciao for now.

Randy
