My Tupperware Party

Wasn't exactly what I'd call a huge success. I had three people, and I only had THAT many because one of my friends brought a visitor along!

They did actually place orders, which was nice, but since we all know the same people, none of them are going to have their own parties, which is what the whole thing needs to keep going.

On the other hand, we had a great time. The three recipes we made were fabulous, and one of them, at least, is one that I'll be making on a regular basis. It's a tomato-mozzarella cake (what we call quick breads are all called cakes here), and it is to die for!

The new product lines are wonderful. It made me wish I could buy everything there. I particularly like this new range that can go into either the microwave or regular oven. We made a potato gratin that was all golden brown and perfect after 20 minutes in the microwave, and that's without using the browning element! But, I've always been a kitchen gadget freak, so Tupperware is pretty much made for me... Or would be if I had more money to spend.

So, I don't know whether I'm going to make any money at this or not. I have to try to be patient and see where it leads. I'm going to see if I can set up a stand on our market, for example, or maybe even try to sell it through "virtual" parties online. And, it may just be that I"m not really cut out for the selling to friends kind of business.

Ciao for now.

Technical difficulties

As always, this morning I took Maggie for our walk up to the post office to collect our mail. We do this for several reasons: one, it's a good excuse to get out and take a walk, two, I get to see people and find out what's happening around town, and three, we have a really small mailbox and there's no way to put a larger one on the front of the house without it being ugly or cutting a hole into the wall.

I was surprised to discover that this morning, the post office was closed due to "technical difficulties." What could those be, I wondered? Is the computer system down so that they can't calculate the price of sending mail? Or is there a problem with the banking system, one of the main reasons people often go to the post office here? I had no clue until a little later on in the morning I learned that the front door was stuck! THAT was the technical difficulty. I must admit that I found that highly amusing. I suppose I can go and see if they can hand me my mail through the window...

Technical difficulties seem to abound today. I had an appointment to go and help one of our new residents set up his internet connection. I got there only to discover that he doesn't have both a working electrical socket and phone jack on the same side of the room. He DID have, until about fifteen minutes before I got there, when he plugged something into the wall and there was a spark. Since then, the sockets are dead as the dodo. He went out to buy a long extension cord and we will try again later.

I had my own technical difficulties this morning. After my aborted trip to the post office I discovered that I had lost my house key! JM came down to let me in, I left Maggie at home and walked back the way I had just come, hoping I would spot the missing key lying on the ground. No such luck and half the village asked me what was wrong and therefore now knows that I"m an idiot who has lost her key. Totally stumped with my inability to find said key, I returned home. JM looked through my incredibly small bag and there, hidden in a corner was the key! It is confirmed, I suppose I AM an idiot.

I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't spend the rest of the day locked in a closet where I can do no further harm. Perhaps all of these technical difficulties are somehow my fault...

Ciao for now.
