Fair Dealings

Almost every village in the region has its local fair during the summer months. Ours is one of the earlier ones, kicking off the summer season during Ascension weekend.

To show now favoritism, every year it changes the side of town where it is located. Last year it was on Cours Raynaud and Cours Sully, this year it is on Cours Colbert and Cours d'Aguessau, which means part of it will be directly in front of our house.

Last night, after we were all tucked in behind our shutters, the fair trucks moved into town. Most of them are on the Cours d'Aguessau and that end of the Cours Colbert. It seems to indicate that we will be having the bandstand and dancing at our end of the Cours. I must admit, the prospect does not fill me with delight, as the music goes on for three nights into the wee hours of the morning. We are hoping that the fact that we sleep on the other side of the house will enable us to get some shut-eye.

Still, not to sound too Grinchy about the whole thing, the kids love it and the village really hops. It is really only us fogies who look upon the event with a jaundiced eye. But, there will be fair food: crepes, frites, ice cream, all the goodies that we rarely eat, and they will be practically right outside our front door. That can't be all bad.

And, another big event that happens this week is that our friend Michel will be opening the buvette at the campground in time for the weekend. That means we'll be able to have lovely dinners and lunches out under the trees; something that we really enjoyed last year.

So, the good will come with the slightly (but not really) bad, and we'll ease into those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer in Chalabre, season two!

Ciao for now!

Randy
