Bye-bye, Team USA
We're very sad here in the Possum Kingdom. We just witnessed Team USA being eliminated from the World Cup. We'd really hoped to see them move on to the next round, but รง'est la vie. Now, we need to see if the Blues can move on tomorrow night.
I must admit that some of the fun of the World Cup goes out the window when neither of your teams gets to go forward. We don't really have anyone else for whom we're rooting, so we will be watching Team France with crossed fingers .
Of course, that is not all that is happening here in Chalabre. Saturday is the second annual Festival de Rues, which is a gourmet and artisan fair. I'm actually looking forward to it, even though we will once again have a buvette of some type in front of our house. Still, it is only for one day and all the music will be of the "normal" variety, i.e. no electronic amps! We're having Bandas, Musette, Jazz and Brazilian music, which is a pretty eclectic mixture to say the least. I'm not quite sure where the Brazilian band fits in, but I remember them from last year and they were loads of fun.
There will be the big, communal dinner under the covered marketplace, however, this year, I think JM and I will just buy food from the various booths and make our own meal. The big dinner is daube (beef stew), which just seems a bit unseasonal for summer weather. Didier and Mireille are going to be grilling merguez, etc. in front of their butcher shop, and that sounds pretty appetizing to JM right now.
Speaking of JM, he had to go to Paris for a couple of days this week and I have to say that I missed him greatly. Funny how difficult it is for us to be apart, even for a couple of nights. The house seemed unnaturally quiet, and Maggie and I kind of just wandered around feeling lost. Luckily, Conchita and Mariano were there to cheer me up and keep me company. I'm sincerely grateful for their love and support, and ever more confirmed in my belief that we live in a speciial corner of the world.
Ciao for now!
