Take it back!

Okay, I seem to have been wrong, wrong, WRONG about it being fall when I wrote last Saturday's blog. We are in the midst of a glorious last hurrah of summer. The sun has been out, it must have been around 80 today and all the neighbors are out basking in the sun.

I don't know how long it will last, but I'm going to enjoy it as long as it does. At any rate, it's hard to believe that autumn really does arrive this weekend.

But it doesn't mean that I'm willing to forget that colder/wetter weather is coming our way. I've made my appointment for master plumber, Christian Drouin to come and sweep our chimney and get the heating system going. Also, painter and friend Joel Brochet is going to insulate the wall in our bedroom, which will hopefully help us to save on our heating oil bill this winter.

Then, I stopped over at the garage to ask M. Hervas to change Beanie's wiper blades, which have become mostly streaker blades of late. His wife, Elodie, told me that they had to send their beloved GSD, Gipsy, to the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. He was 13 and had been suffering from pancreatic cancer for several months. Antoine is heartbroken, as Gipsy was really HIS dog. In fact, the whole family is devastated. Maggie seemed to sense it, and paid everyone a lot of attention to let them know she understood.

This reminds me that I have not written about village character, Arthur, the terrier who owns our village dentist and his family. I love Arthur, who reminds JM and me a lot of our own beloved Taffy-Jerome. While he is sweet andfriendlyy, Arthur is a dog who is always on a mission. He just doesn't have lots of time to waste "visiting." Whenever you see him he seems to be saying, "I've got places to go and things to do, don't get in my way!" Although he always manages to find time to say hi to Maggie.

Arthur has one major fault; he loves to chase cars. This makes everyone very nervous and, last week he suffered the inevitable collision. In what seems to be a minor miracle, he was not killed, and although his injuries look horrendous, they are not serious nor life-threatening. I do wish his family would no longer let him run around on his own, but that is just not going to happen. I do hope Arthur has learned his lesson, but I cannot but think he has not...

Ciao for now.

Randy
