Working Girl

I'm typing this from my temporary gig as replacement librarian!

Village "super-librarian" Noëlle is on vacation for the month of August. Last year, they simply shut the library down when she was away. However, now that a ton of folks have gotten used to coming in to check out their email on the library's free internet access, it would be cruel and unusual punishment to deprive them for an entire month. So at one point a few months ago while we were chatting, I volunteered to take over for her.

Today is my first day. Normally, the library is closed on Mondays, but I needed to tweak the schedule for this week, because JM's 'rents are coming tomorrow for their first ever visit to the Possum Kingdom. With picking them up at the train station and wanting to do a bit of siteseeing, Noëlle didn't mind me playing around with the minds of the library faithful.

Despite the re-adjusted hours being on the door for the last week, I've only had two victms so far today. I guess this proves that people don't like change.

Speaking of change, I'm having to get used to typing on a French keyboard, as I'm using Noëlle's computer to go online. This is particularly challenging, because I've been a touch-typist since high school, and that was a lonnnnnnnnggggggggg time ago. My brain is aware that the keys are in different places, but my fingers refuse to get the message. Therefore, I'm reverting to a bizarro combination of half touch-typing and half two-fingered typing; we won't go into how many errors I've had to correct so far.

I'll return to my lonely outpost for now, with the hope that a straggler or two will make their way through my door before the closing bell in an hour.

Ciao for now.

Randy
