Allez les Bleus, Allez!!
For any soccer fans out there, it's obvious; everyone in France is absolutely thrilled at the outcome of last night's match between France and Brazil. We can't wait for Wednesday's battle with Portugal.
A couple of weeks ago, this seemed as impossible as putting a man on the moon...Oh, wait! We did that! So, maybe it proves that nothing is ever impossible. Certainly for me, seeing a bunch of "old" guys running around and proving that being over 30 doesn't mean that you're dead in the world of sports was a major thrill. Experience over youth, what a concept.
All of France is also in the throes of Zidanemania. I think he's the Fred Astaire of football. When you see him out there gliding along on the field, controlling the ball as if it's a part of his own body, for just a second, you believe it's easy and you could do it too. Then of course, you stretch wrong and throw out your back.
The world cup always amuses me, because the rest of the time JM and I really don't give a damn about sports, except for some of the Winter Olympic events like the figure skating and one or two other things. But, we don't care enough to worry about missing any of those. Whereas, there was no way that we would have gone out anywhere last night if it meant missing the match.
Indeed, we were invited to dinner by our good friends Peter and Margaret at the newly opened restaurant at the Chateau in Camon (run by their son and talented chef Tom Sleigh), but we had to change the date so we wouldn't miss the semi-final match between Germany and Italy on Tuesday. And, of course, like 90% of the rest of the country, we'll be glued to our set Wednesday night to cheer on the amazing Bleus!
ALLEZ LES BLEUS!!!!
