Weird Weather
I'm afraid that last Saturday's Festival des Rues was a bit of a bust. The morning was beautiful and sunny. However, when the set up the booths for the festival, a horrendous downpour and thunderstorm decided that was the perfect moment to arrive.
JM and I bravely went out to look and see what vendors were around. The answer was, "not many." Most of the local producers had seen which way the wind was blowing (so to speak) and didn't even bother to set up. The few who were there legged it pretty early on.
Things did clear up later in the evening, so the bodegas that were selling cooked food: paella, moules-frites, drinks, etc., stuck around and did seem to draw a crowd. But we found it really too wet and miserable to hang about, so we invited our wonderful friends and neighbors, Yves and Hélene, in to watch the exciting World Cup match between Argentina and Mexico.
As ex-Angelenos, we were rooting for Mexico, of course!
Sadly, the weather has decided that it liked being stormy, and since Saturday we have had our share of them. This was not something that I thought about when we moved. We hardly every had thunder in Reseda. Yes, there were big storms in the desert, and yes, we had our share of major rainstorms. But thunder and lightning were not a part of our existence.
It's not as if it would have changed my decision to move to the Possum Kingdom in any way, but perhaps I would have pondered more on whether Maggie would be affected. She has not been a happy camper this last week or so. I know she thinks this is something that we have specifically invented to torture her.
We are doing our best: trying her on anti-anxiety medication, supporting it with homeopathic remedies and, of course, her Anxiety Wrap. And, I do think she is somewhat better than in the past. But, it is still not something that makes her day a happy one. At least we get sunny skies in the morning, so it's not as if it's storming all the time.
I know we need the rain, as the draught conditions of the last few years have not entirely cleared up in the region. And, personally, I don't even mind it all that much (except when the power goes out!), but I do feel bad for our girl.
Ciao for now.
